Marshall Scholarship

Deadline: Summer 2010 (Please note: the campus deadline for the 2009-10 Marshall Scholarship has passed)

The Marshall Scholarship, one of the most competitive and prestigious awards, funds one or two years of post-bachelor study at any college or university in the United Kingdom (England, Wales, Scotland, or Northern Ireland). It was created by the British government in 1953 to commemorate the Marshall Plan. The program is intended to encourage future American leaders to be personal ambassadors to the U.K. Marshall Scholars may pursue either a second bachelor's or a graduate degree. The award covers all reasonable educational costs, a personal allowance for living expenses, and travel costs to and from the United States. Approximately 40 scholarships are awarded each year. Of the 40 awarded in 2010, up to 8 will be one year scholarships)

Eligibility requirements

  • U.S. citizen
  • Graduation date between April 2007 - October 2010
  • Minimum 3.7 GPA

Selection Criteria

Selectors look for candidates who combine outstanding academic ability with the capacity to play an active role in a U.K. university, and who have potential to make significant contributions to their communities and fields of study. Applicants should also display strong motivation and seriousness of purpose through their focused presentation of (and preparation for) a feasible academic program.

Application requirements

Applicants must submit the following:

  • A completed on-line application form. Applicants must submit a print out of the completed on-line application.
  • Official transcripts from all colleges and universities you have attended.
