Beinecke Scholarship Deadline: February 2009 (exact date to be announced)
The Beinecke Scholarship provides $34,000: $4,000 prior to graduate study and $15,000 per year for two years of graduate study in the arts, humanities, or social sciences. Eighty colleges and universities from across the U.S. (including UC Berkeley) are invited to nominate one student for a Beinecke Scholarship; on average, twenty scholarships are awarded nationwide. Selection criteria Most Beinecke recipients are at the top of their class academically and many plan to pursue careers in college teaching and/or research. The amount of an applicants financial need will not be a major determining factor, but preference is given to candidates for whom the scholarship would enable her/him to attend graduate school. The UC Berkeley selection committee will select the Universitiy's nominee based on the above application materials and criteria. The current years application becomes available in the Scholarship Connection office (301 Campbell) in mid-December.
