Gates Cambridge Webinar

The Gates Cambridge community would like to invite all interested students, to participate in a "webinar"
information session on the Gates Cambridge Scholarship on October 28th, 3pm GMT. This webinar is intended to provide an introduction to Cambridge University, the Gates Cambridge Scholarship, the application process, and allow for any questions and follow-up for those interested in applying.

Churchill Scholarship

The Winston Churchill Foundation will award graduate scholarships to help American students of exceptional ability and outstanding achievement the opportunity to pursue graduate studies in engineering, mathematics, or the sciences at Churchill College, the University of Cambridge. The foundation offer generous living and travel allowances in addition to fully covering all university and college tuition fees. At least twelve scholarships are awarded to seniors and recent graduates from across the country. UC Berkeley may nominate up to two students for the Churchill Scholarship.

Eligibility requirements

  • U.S. citizen, age 19-26
  • Be a senior or recent graduate from an accredited college or university in the U.S.
  • Earn bachelors degree before October 2010
  • Must have taken the GRE (Graduate Record Examination) Scores must be received by the foundation no later than the end of November
  • Have a demonstrated academic excellence (previous Scholars have usually had a grade point average of at least 3.7 or A-)
  • Applicants must also submit the application for admission to Cambridge with the Churchill application

Selection criteria

Evaluators look for Exceptional academic achievement as indicated by course grades. Scores on the Graduate Record Examinations. A capacity to pursue original, creative work and to contribute to the advancement of knowledge in the sciences, engineering, or mathematics. Outstanding personal qualities as demonstrated by leadership, activities, social engagement.

Application requirements

Applicants must submit the following:

  • The University of Cambridge Application Form (The Application Form is available on the Cambridge Web site at http://www.admin.cam.ac.uk/
    offices/gradstud/admissions/forms/)
  • six passport-size photographs
  • One signed copy of the Churchill Foundation Application Form
  • Four letters of reference —two more than required for the Cambridge Application Form.
  • Official transcript from each institution you have attended.
  • Graduate Record Examination Scores on the General Test. (The Institution Code List number for the Winston Churchill Foundation is 3922. Scores on the GRE taken in the past two years are acceptable. MCAT scores may be substituted for the GRE.)

The UC Berkeley selection committee will select the university's nominees based on the above application materials and criteria.
