The Merage Foundation for the American Dream was established by Paul and Lily Merage, both immigrants to the United States. Having lived the American Dream, they fervently believe in the ideals that have made the United States a unique land of opportunity for immigrants. In establishing the Foundation, they hope to help preserve and promote these ideals and to inspire new Americans to greater achievement. The Foundation awards $10,000 stipend annually for two years towards the efforts of fostering education, traveling and learning, securing mentors, and supporting internship opportunities. UC Berkeley may nominate up to three students
Candidates are evaluated on whether they demonstrate a clear set of objectives and strategies concerning achieving leadership positions in one of the following areas of concern: business, culture and the arts, science or education, or public service. Students must illustrate: a solid academic record; a clear track record of leadership; a commitment to hard work and excellence; creativity and initiative; consistent ethical behavior.
The UC Berkeley selection committee will select the university's nominees based on the above application materials and criteria.
