Gates Cambridge Webinar

The Gates Cambridge community would like to invite all interested students, to participate in a "webinar"
information session on the Gates Cambridge Scholarship on October 28th, 3pm GMT. This webinar is intended to provide an introduction to Cambridge University, the Gates Cambridge Scholarship, the application process, and allow for any questions and follow-up for those interested in applying.

Merage Fellowship

The Merage Foundation for the American Dream was established by Paul and Lily Merage, both immigrants to the United States. Having lived the American Dream, they fervently believe in the ideals that have made the United States a unique land of opportunity for immigrants. In establishing the Foundation, they hope to help preserve and promote these ideals and to inspire new Americans to greater achievement. The Foundation awards $10,000 stipend annually for two years towards the efforts of fostering education, traveling and learning, securing mentors, and supporting internship opportunities. UC Berkeley may nominate up to three students

Eligibility requirements

  • Must be a senior (must have finished three full years of undergraduate work and must be in their senior year) and plan to graduate in Spring 2009.
  • Must be immigrants to the United States- Candidates must either have become a citizen since coming to the U.S. or hold a Permanent Resident Card (Green Card).
  • Students who are not yet citizens must indicate their intent to become United States citizens.

Selection criteria

Candidates are evaluated on whether they demonstrate a clear set of objectives and strategies concerning achieving leadership positions in one of the following areas of concern: business, culture and the arts, science or education, or public service. Students must illustrate: a solid academic record; a clear track record of leadership; a commitment to hard work and excellence; creativity and initiative; consistent ethical behavior.

Application requirements

Applicants must submit the following:

  • A completed application form
  • Personal statement,1500 words or less
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • Official copies of transcripts from all colleges attended
  • Documentation of immigrant status

The UC Berkeley selection committee will select the university's nominees based on the above application materials and criteria.
