Sarah Stone is a rhetoric major at Berkeley. She plans to use the Beinecke scholarships towards a Ph.D. programs in either rhetoric, english, or literature. Sarah's current research involves investigating the ways narrative both expands and limits both gender and autobiography. In addition to her research, Sarah also works as a tutor for the Student Learning Center. Sarah was also recently selected as a scholar in the prestigious Haas Scholars Program.
Jesse Dashe, a major in chemical biology, one day hopes to work toward a cure for cancer. Jesse has a passion for chemistry which will aid him well in the biosciences. As a sophomore, Jesse is already well on the path to achieving his goal of becoming a major contributor to his field. In the future, he will pursue an MD/PhD program in biochemistry.
Amar is a double major in molecular and cell biology and public health at U.C. Berkeley. He is interested in neuroscience and medicine and wishes to pursue a career in biomedical research. In addition to his work in the lab, Amar serves as president of the Hindu Students Council and is founder of the Foundation for International Medical Relief of Children.
Yaniv Scherson is a double major in mechanical engineering and Materials Science. Yaniv has served as a tutor to high school students in math, chemistry, and physics and has worked in the ADEPT program to help promote interest in science to students. In the future, he in interested in developing micro electrical mechanical systems (MEMS) technology and becoming a professor.
Daniel is an urban studies major at Berkeley who has already demonstrated a great deal of accomplishment. In addition to the Marshall scholarship he has won the Strauss scholarship and is a Haas Scholar, one of Berkeley;'s most prestigious awards. Daniel established a series of micro clinics that work to serve the diabetic population in the West Bank. Has also worked to establish a fellowship that will help facilitate the establishment of such projects throughout the developing world. In the future, Daniel desires a career in public policy that will facilitate a "synergistic relationship" between Israel and Palestine. Daniel will begin study towards an M.Phil in development Studies at Oxford in fall 2006.

Christine,a double major in psychology and spanish, is also recipient of the prestigious Haas Scholars Program scholarship. As one of his future endeavors, She wishes to serve the underrepresented members of our society by researching the underlying dynamics of stigma directed towards this group. Christine plans to pursue a Ph.D. in social psychology upon graduation from Berkeley.
Matthew graduated in 2005 with a degree in political science and interdisciplinary studies. At Berkeley, he was president and vice president of the Informed Voters Foundation and represented this group on the New Voters Project, a non-partisan coalition which registered 6000 students to vote in 2004. Matt was the founder and president of the Informal Debate Society, the largest UC Berkeley debating organization devoted to discussion of social and political issues. As a Mitchell Scholar, Matt will be in a cross-border human rights and criminal justice program at Queen's University Belfast and the National University of Ireland in Galway.
Jonathan Choi is a major in political economy of industrial societies at Berkeley. Through his program, Policy in Action (PIA), Jonathan will encourage civic development at U.C. Berkeley in order to empower students to become more socially conscious leaders and citizens. Jonathan is also the co-founder of the Cal Katrina Relief effort that raised money to support victims of the hurricane. In the future, Jonathan hopes to become a policy maker.
