Gates Cambridge Webinar

The Gates Cambridge community would like to invite all interested students, to participate in a "webinar"
information session on the Gates Cambridge Scholarship on October 28th, 3pm GMT. This webinar is intended to provide an introduction to Cambridge University, the Gates Cambridge Scholarship, the application process, and allow for any questions and follow-up for those interested in applying.

Samuel Pittman

Samuel Pittman, a major in the interdisciplinary studies field major at Berkeley, focuses his studies on the depiction of identity. He is specifically interested on males' creative responses to and uses of recent untraditional techniques in autobiographical practice, implemented by females. In the future, Samuel will pursue a Ph.D. in either rhetoric or English, after initially pursuing a Master's degree in creative writing.

Adeel Iqbal

Adeel Iqbal is a major in development studies. He was editor and chief of the Daily Californian as a sophomore and selected as a Barbara Rosenthal Israel Scholar, awarded to students who have contributed significantly to the newspaper and to student journalism. Adeel hopes to serve the public in an effort to address the social inequalities that exist in the world.

Matthew Breindel

Matthew Breindel is a major in physics at U.C. Berkeley. His current curriculum is interdisciplinary and includes philysophy, psychology, and neurobiology courses. Matthew is passionate about the physical processes of that give rise to consciousness. His hope is to pursue a Ph.D. in neuroscience after graduating.

Laura Lagomarsino

Laura Lagomarsino is a major in genetics and plant biology. Laura's fascination with nature began in her childhood. Her fascination with botany has been reinforced by the research she has conducted as a Nathan and Violet David Scholar. Laura plan to pursue a Ph.D. in plant systematics upon completion of her bachelor's degree.

Stephanie Lamb

Stephanie Lamb is a major in chemical biology aspires to improve the healthcare system and possibly revolutionize the way we approach medical solutions, via the greater use of nanotechnology. Stephanie has also served as an Associate Justice of the ASUC. Stephanie plans to pursue a Ph.D. in the future, with the additional goal of becoming a university professor and researcher.


 

Marshall Scholarship

Annie Bird

Annie Bird graduated from U.C. Berkeley in 2005 as a Peace and Conflict Studies major. Annie has worked with UNICEF, the United Nations, and the International Center for Transitional Justice. Annie, also a John Garner Fellow for Public Service, will pursue advanced study in Human Rights and Global and Comparative Politics at the University of Essex.


 

Merage Fellowship for the American Dream

Ehsan Saadat

Ehsan Saad graduated in 2006 as a major in bioengineering at U.C. Berkeley. He immigrated to the United States in August 2000 from Iran to pursue educational opportunities denied to him in Iran as a Jew. His goal is to become an orthopedic surgeon and develop imaging markers that will accurately pinpoint joint deterioration before it becomes symptomatic.

Rachel Barge

Rachel Barge is a major in conservation and resource studies at Berkeley. Rachel is the Director of the ASUC Office of Sustainability, a member of the Chancellor's Advisory Committee on Sustainability, and a member of Cal Women's Ultimate Frisbie Team. Rachel hope to promote locally grown organic agriculture, foster farm to consumer connection, and educate people on the environmental impact of agriculture. She hope to pursue a Ph.D. in geography, with a focus in agroecology and environmental policy, in graduate school.
