The Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship (MMUF) program at UC Berkeley targets students with exceptional academic promise in select humanities and social sciences disciplines. Applicants must have the goal of becoming faculty who will contribute to diversity and equal opportunity in the academy. The program supports fellows for up to two years with academic year and summer stipends of $3600 and $3900, respectively, research support, and travel monies to enhance their undergraduate years. Each fellow is teamed with faculty and graduate student mentors. They also receive guidance on applying to and attending graduate school and developing their professional skills. As a result, fellows are very competitive when applying to graduate schools. The MMUF program selects undergraduates with approximately four semesters remaining at Berkeley. With both intellectual and professional development support, MMUF fellows realize their greatest potential as graduate students to become extraordinarily successful faculty members and role models for future generations.
