The Lafayette Fellowship supports up to 30 American students in STEM, the humanities, social sciences, and the arts, with an interest in addressing global challenges – from sustainable transitions, health, and biotechnology to peace, security, and AI – in a French-American context. The Fellowship offers full funding for one year of master’s-level study in France as well as leadership training. Candidates must apply separately for admission to one of the program’s partner institutions.
Prospective applicants must make an individual advising appointment with Alicia Hayes, the Lafayette Fellowship campus representative.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must:
- be under the age of 27 (as of July 1, 2026)
- have a bachelor’s degree from a U.S. institution no later than June 30, 2026, and be within two years of their date of graduation at the time of application
- have a GPA of no less than 3.7 at the time of application
- Note: Knowledge of French is not required for acceptance into the program
Application Requirements
- transcripts from all colleges attended
- resume (not to exceed two pages)

- three letters of recommendation, including two academic letters and one extracurricular letter
- you must complete an independent admissions application directly through one the partner French university websites. If selected for the Lafayette Fellowship you must provide either an official letter admission or letter of acceptance.
