Zeliang Cai 2022-2023

Zeliang Cai (Economics, ’22), an international student from China, is passionate about finance, particularly welfare foundation and venture capital investment. As an undergraduate, he helped redesign an investment portfolio at a welfare foundation in China, for which he received the 2020 Project HOPE Outstanding Contribution Award. Zhengfan Pan (B.A. Legal Studies, ’20; MIDS, ’21) anticipates that the friendships he will make as a Schwarzman Scholar will outlive the program itself, along with the benefits of gaining rare access to Chinese business and political leaders. James Tayali 2022-2023

James Tayali (Public Health, ’17) came to Cal from Malawi as a Mastercard Scholar and soon connected with Professor Sam Mchombo, who encouraged him to study Swahili and connect with the African student community on campus. Justin Kong is a health advocate with a University of California, Berkeley degree in Public Health and extensive professional experience. He has held leadership roles at a healthcare consulting firm, in the United Nations Medical Services Division, and in student government as Executive Vice President. Toure Owen is a 2016 graduate of the University of California Berkeley where he majored in Political Science. Prior to joining Schwarzman Scholars, Toure was supporting Small and Medium Size business development for Sub-Saharan Africa. After a year at Schwarzman College, Toure will pursue his MBA at Stanford’s Graduate School of Business. Toure is 25 years old and from the United States.

Jieying Shi graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a double major in Economics and Geography.
